  • What is the average turnaround time for a footage request?
    Depending on the nature of your request, and once a Footage License Agreement has been negotiated, it takes 3 to 5 days on average to deliver recent footage, 5 to 7 days for historic footage.





    What tape formats are available?
    The collections have all been restored to the highest archival standards. Footage requests are usually delivered on Betacam SP, however, alternate formats are also available.

    Are there any restrictions on the use of NHL footage?

    Footage containing fighting, injuries, penalties, or anything that may be interpreted as reflecting negatively upon the National Hockey League, its players, coaches, officials, fans or sponsors will not be released for any reason.

    With the exception of “historical” uses, all footage released must contain current uniforms, logos and other NHL marks.

    No footage will be released with announcers’ calls or with copyrighted music.

    No footage will be released of any player or coach who is currently serving a suspension or who has been banned from the NHL.

    No footage will be released of any player, coach or official currently under criminal investigation or in the news for negative reasons without written approval from NHLE Legal and/or the Office of the Commissioner.

    An NHL Production; footage license foes not carry with it any right to use the names, likenesses, reputations, goodwill, personas or any other aspect of the right to privacy personality or publicity of any individual or group, including any current or former NHL players. As a license, it will be solely your responsibility at your sole cost, to secure any such rights depicted in otherwise used in connection with any NHL footage you receive to the extent necessary to the pursuant to applicable laws.

    In addition to the limitations concerning the privacy, personality or publicity rights of individuals (including but not limited to NHL players), as a license it will be solely your responsibility, at your sole cost to secure any other rights from any third party whose properties are depicted in or otherwise used in connection with any NHL footage you receive to the extent necessary pursuant to applicable laws.

    NHL Footage may not be used in any way which expresses or implies the NHL’s endorsement of any organization, cause, belief, product or service without the prior written approval of NHL Productions.

    No footage will be released if there are sensitivities, as determined by NHL Club Marketing, with regard to local Partnerships/Sponsorships of Member Clubs.

    Pre-1994 Molson/CBC Footage cannot be used by any company/sponsor engaged in the malt beverage industry, except for certain permissible uses as determined by NHL Productions.

    No footage focusing on any individual fan will be released.

    No footage will be released or licensed to fans for personal use.

    Footage requests from any party who is default under any NHL Productions footage license at the time of the request will not be fulfilled unless and until the existing default is cured.
